Modifier Categories

Use this page to add and manage modifier categories — groups that organise modifier options (for example “Sauces”, “Toppings”, or “Size upgrades”). Set whether choices are mandatory, single or multi-select, and how many modifiers a customer can pick.

Open the screen: Sidebar → Master Data ManagementModifiers Categories

Create categories before modifiers

Set up modifier categories here first. Then add individual modifier lines under Modifiers and attach them to menu items.

Modifier categories list

What it does

Shows all modifier categories with selection rules, display order, and status. Filter the list, reorder rows, then add, view, or edit categories.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Master Data ManagementModifiers Categories.
  2. Wait if the table shows Loading modifier categories….
  3. Use filters to narrow the list (see table below). Name and sequence searches update shortly after you stop typing.
  4. Read the table — drag handle, ID, Modifier Category, Is Mandatory, Is Single Select, Seq No, Max, Status, and Actions.
  5. Tap the refresh button (circular arrow) to reload the list.
  6. Use pagination at the bottom to change page or rows per page.

Set Status to All or Inactive to see categories you turned off.

  • I do not see Add New, Import, or Edit. Ask your administrator for CREATE or UPDATE permission on Modifiers Categories.

Add a modifier category

Creates a new modifier group with selection rules and active status.

Step-by-step

  1. Tap Add New.
  2. In the Add Modifier Category dialog, enter Category Name.
  3. Enter Maximum — the highest number of modifiers a customer can pick from this group.
  4. Toggle Active on or off (defaults to on).
  5. Toggle Mandatory on if customers must choose from this group.

Modifier category fields

FieldRequired?What to enter
Category NameYesGroup name (for example “Sauces”) — up to 255 characters
MaximumYes*Highest number of modifiers allowed — hidden when Single Select is on
ActiveNoToggle on for Active, off for Inactive
MandatoryNoToggle on if the customer must pick from this group
Single SelectNoToggle on to allow only one choice — Maximum is set to 1 automatically

* Maximum is not shown when Single Select is on — the limit is always 1.

Single select vs multi-select

Turn Single Select on for groups like “Choose your bread”. Leave it off and set Maximum higher for groups like “Pick up to 3 toppings”.

Common mistakes / FAQs

  • “Category name is required”. Enter a name before you tap Create.
  • Maximum field disappeared. Single Select is on — only one modifier is allowed. Turn it off to set a higher Maximum.

View a modifier category

What it does

Opens a read-only view of a modifier category’s settings without changing anything.

Step-by-step

  1. In the table, tap View (eye icon) on the row.
  2. The dialog title shows View Modifier Category. Fields are not editable.
  3. Review Category Name, Maximum, Active, Mandatory, and Single Select.
  4. Tap Close.

No separate view page

There is no full-screen view. To read details without saving, open View and close the dialog instead of Edit.

Edit a modifier category

What it does

Updates an existing modifier category’s name, selection rules, or status.

Step-by-step

  1. In the table, tap Edit (pencil icon) on the row.

  2. In the Edit Modifier Category dialog, change the fields you need.

  3. Tap Update.

  4. When successful, you see a success message and the dialog closes.

  5. Tap Reset to undo unsaved changes on the form.

Common mistakes / FAQs

  • Edit is disabled. Ask your administrator for UPDATE permission on Modifiers Categories.
  • “Your session has expired”. Sign in again and retry.

Reorder modifier categories

What it does

Changes the display order of modifier categories. Lower Seq No values appear first when modifiers are shown on POS and online ordering.

Step-by-step

  1. In the table, find the row you want to move.
  2. Drag the grip handle on that row up or down.
  3. Drop the row in the new position.
  4. Wait for the success message — the new order saves to the server automatically.

Reorder on one page at a time

Pagination shows one page of categories. Change Records per page if you need to move items across pages.

Common mistakes / FAQs

  • “Reordering Failed”. Refresh the list and try again.

Deactivate a modifier category

What it does

Hides a modifier category from active use without deleting its record.

Step-by-step

  1. Tap Edit on the category row.
  2. Toggle Active off.
  3. Tap Update.

Inactive categories stay linked

Turning a category Inactive does not remove modifiers or item links already using it. Review linked modifiers under Modifiers and your item setup if you retire a group.

Import modifier categories from CSV

What it does

Creates many modifier categories at once from a spreadsheet file.

Step-by-step

  1. Tap the Upload icon next to Add New.
  2. Wait while the import dialog loads module types.
  3. Drag a CSV file into the upload area, or tap to browse and select one.
  4. Review the selected file name and size.
  5. Tap Import Modifier Categories.
  6. When successful, you see a success message. The dialog closes and the list refreshes.
