Modifiers & Variants
When you tap an item on the POS, a customisation dialog may open before the item is added to the cart. There are two kinds of customisation: modifiers and variants. Some items have one, some have both, and some have neither.
Modifiers
Modifiers are extras or choices that change how an item is prepared or served - for example: sauce choice, extra toppings, cook preference, dietary adjustments.
How to select modifiers
- Tap an item that has modifiers - the Modifiers dialog opens automatically.
- The dialog shows one or more modifier groups (e.g., "Sauces", "Extras", "Cook Preference").
- Select your choices in each group.
- Tap Confirm to add the item with the selected modifiers.
Modifier group types

| Single-select | Choose exactly one option from the group |
| Multi-select | Choose up to the group's maximum - use + and − to adjust quantities |
Required groups are marked with a red asterisk (*). The Confirm button stays disabled until all required groups have a valid selection.
Modifier pricing
Each modifier option shows its price adjustment next to the name:
- No price shown - the modifier is included at no extra charge
- + $1.50 - this modifier adds $1.50 to the item price
- The total cost of all selected modifiers is added to the line item price
Adding kitchen notes
After confirming modifiers, you can tap the note icon on any cart line item to add a free-text kitchen note (e.g., "well done", "no salt", "allergy - no nuts"). The note prints on the kitchen ticket.
TIP
You can also tap the note icon directly on a cart line item at any point before checkout - you don't have to add the note immediately after adding the item.
Variants
Variants are distinct versions of the same item, each with its own price - for example: Small, Medium, Large; or a 250ml and 500ml pour. Selecting a variant determines the base price of the item.
Pratham ResPOS supports two variant systems. You will see one or the other depending on how your menu is configured.
New variant system
Options appear as a grid of tiles. Each tile shows:
- Variant name (e.g., "Large")
- Price (e.g.,
$18.00) - Measurement unit if applicable (e.g.,
/ ea,/ kg)
Tap the tile you want. One variant must always be selected - a default is pre-selected automatically when the dialog opens.
Legacy variant system (attributes)
Options appear as one or more attribute groups, each with a label (e.g., "Size", "Crust"). Each group can be:

- Required groups are marked with a red asterisk (*). All required groups must have a selection before the item can be added to the cart.
- Some choices may be greyed out with a diagonal strikethrough - this means they are incompatible with another attribute you have already selected.
- Default choices are pre-selected when the dialog opens.
Variant prices in this system are price adjustments - they add to or subtract from the item's base price.
Items with both modifiers and variants
When an item has both variants and modifiers, you will see:
- The variant selector first - choose a size or version
- The modifier dialog opens after - select extras or options
- Tap Confirm to add the item to the cart
The total price shown in the dialog reflects the selected variant price plus any modifier costs.
Items with no customisation
If an item has no variants or modifiers, tapping the item card adds it to the cart immediately - no dialog opens.
