Coupons & Promotions
A coupon (also called a promo code) gives the customer an offer - money off the order, money off specific items, or a free item. Coupons are created in the Admin portal; on the POS you apply them to an order.
There are two ways a coupon gets onto an order:
| Type | How it works |
|---|---|
| Auto-apply | The POS applies it by itself as soon as the cart qualifies |
| Manual | You enter the coupon code when the customer asks for the offer |
Apply a coupon code
- Add the customer's items to the cart.
- Tap the settings icon (⚙) at the bottom of the cart.
- Tap Coupon. The Enter Coupon Code screen opens.
- Enter the code, or tap one of the eligible offers listed below the field - tapping an offer fills in its code for you.
- Tap Apply.
When the coupon works, you see "Coupon applied successfully!" and an orange Coupon applied banner appears at the top of the cart summary.
TIP
The eligible offers list only shows coupons that match the current cart. If the list is empty, no coupon currently fits this order.
Remove a coupon
- Find the orange Coupon applied banner in the cart summary.
- Tap the × on the banner.
The coupon and its discount are removed, and any item prices it changed go back to normal.
INFO
An order can have one coupon at a time. Applying a new code replaces the current one.
What a coupon can do
Money off the whole order
The discount appears as a Coupon Discount line in the cart summary. It can be a flat amount or a percentage, and it may have a maximum cap - for example "20% off, up to $15".
Money off specific items
The coupon lowers the price of qualifying items already in the cart. Discounted items are marked as offer items, and the discount applies to the cheapest qualifying items first.
Free items
The coupon makes a qualifying item free - for example "buy 2 pizzas, get a garlic bread free".
WARNING
Free-item coupons do not add the free item by themselves. Add the reward item to the cart first - the coupon then makes it free. If the reward item is not in the cart, nothing happens.
TIP
Watch the cart for offer messages like "Add any item from Sides and it will be FREE!". These messages tell you exactly what to add to unlock the offer.
Auto-applied coupons
Some coupons are set to apply automatically. As soon as the cart qualifies, the offer is applied - no code needed. If you open the coupon screen while one is active, you'll see: "Special discount is already applied, no promo code needed."
Coupon conditions
Every coupon can carry conditions set in the Admin portal. The POS checks all of them when you apply the code, and tells you exactly which one failed:
| Condition | What it means |
|---|---|
| Valid dates | The coupon works only between its start and end dates |
| Days & times | Only on certain weekdays, or in certain time slots (e.g. lunch only) |
| Minimum order | The order subtotal must reach a minimum value |
| Usage limit | The coupon can be used only a set number of times in total |
| Once per customer | Each customer can use it once |
| First-time customer | Only for a customer's first order |
| Order type | Only for certain order types (e.g. takeaway only) |
| Required items | Specific items or categories must be in the cart |
Common coupon errors
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Coupon code does not exist | Check the spelling and try again |
| This coupon expired on … | The offer has ended - nothing to do |
| This coupon is valid from … | The offer has not started yet |
| This coupon is only valid on: … | Today is not one of the coupon's days |
| This coupon is currently inactive | The offer is switched off in the Admin portal |
| No eligible bindings found for coupon | The required items are missing - add the qualifying items to the cart |
INFO
🔒 Manager only - coupons are created and managed in the Admin portal under Promotions → Promo Codes. The POS can only apply them.
FAQs
The customer has a coupon and loyalty points. Can I use both?
Yes. They do different jobs, so they work together on the same order:
- The coupon lowers the price of the order.
- Loyalty points pay part (or all) of that lowered price.
Apply the coupon first, then redeem the points at payment time. See Loyalty & Gift Cards.
Items were already sent to the kitchen. Will the coupon discount them?
No. Items the kitchen has already marked as prepared are locked out of coupon offers. Apply the coupon before sending items to the kitchen if you want them included.
Why did the coupon discount change when I edited the cart?
The POS re-checks the coupon every time the cart changes - adding items, removing items, or changing quantities. If the cart no longer meets the coupon's conditions, the offer shrinks or is removed. If the cart qualifies for more, the offer grows. This is normal - the final discount always matches the final cart.
